Advik 2010 Short Anime Music Video Contest

Eligible Videos

As this is our first year, we are looking for any AMVs that fit to our limits. Entrants are allowed to enter at most three entries.

Please note that Advik reserves the right not to show all submitted entries.

How to Enter

To enter into the contest, please send an email to: Nya-chan Production at n.c.p.advik@gmail.com and provide the following information in the email:

  • 1. Your name and possibly your studio’s name.
  • 2. The AMV’s information:
    • a. The name of your video(s).
    • b. The name of the series from which you are drawing your visual material.
    • c. The name of the song you are using, as well as the original artist.
  • 3. A link to where your video can be downloaded. If you plan on mailing in your copy, a mailing address will then be provided to you in the reply email.
  • 4. Whether you plan to attend Advik.
  • 5. Please state that you are the original creator of this AMV.

After this information has been received, Advik staff will download your video, and reply with a confirmation email that your entry has been received. Should we encounter any difficulty playing the video, (ie, we do not have the required codecs), we shall contact you for instruction on what software we will need.

Winners will be announced at the festival on July 30st, 2010. If you are unable to attend the festival, you will be notified by August 1st by email. Your mailing address will then be requested so that an award and prizes may be sent to you.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS JUNE 28TH. PLEASE HAVE YOUR EMAIL SENT BY JUNE 28TH.

Rules

  • 1. AGE LIMIT – Any age or skill level can enter the AMV competition.
  • 2. TIME LIMIT – Entrants are asked to limit each video to at most 90 seconds. Please, be advised, that this means "complete" AMV, not your video just simply cut in the middle. The anime content must be at least 70s of the video.
  • 3. FORMAT OF VIDEO – We will personally recode any video that will be deemed unfit for playing on the con, though majority (like mpeg1/2, XviD/DivX avi or h264 mp4) should be fine as is. If you want to make sure, encode your video as h264 mp4 with AAC sound, in 29.97fps.

It is also reccommended to provide the video in at least 640 pixels wide resolution. Certain quality is needed as well, videos in very bad quality, with original anime subtitles or similar faults will be disqualified and their creators will be informed and asked to fix them, if possible.

  • 4. BUMPERS AND COUNTING – You can provide a version with bumper which will then be played at the final screening, supposed it will be played. The contest version itself must not have any bumper/name/studio name in it, though. Anime and audio info are allowed. The bumper doesn't count towards the length of the vide if it's in the start or in the end of the video and not incorporated in the video itself.
  • 5. CONTENT – This is a PG rated festival and event. All entries are to be rated by our staff and any entries rated higher than PG-13 will not be shown. Advik will contact the entrant to inform them of this. Advik also reserves the right not to show entries.
  • 6. ORIGINAL PRODUCT – You must be the creator of your AMV. Submitting an AMV with any work done by another AMV creator without their explicit prior approval is an act of plagiarism. If you submit plagiarized work, not only will you be banned from the AMV contest, you will also be permanently banned from attending this contest for all future years.
  • 7. JUDGING RULES – AMVs will be rated by a panel of judges and by audience, the score then will count as follows:
    • Judges section (40 pts)
      • Technical skills
        • Timing and special effects used (15 pts)
      • Artistic skills
        • Matching the audio and video in understandably logical or emotional way (20 pts)
      • Bonus
        • Anything that the judges deemed worthy of attributing points and doesn't fit above (5 pts)
    • The scores from 5 judges (3 international and 2 Czech) will be averaged.
    • Audience section (60 pts)
      • The video with the most received votes will receive 60 points and the next ones will receive share according to their percentage from the top voter.
      • Example: The first video gets 100 votes, the second one 80, the third one 40 votes. The first video will get full 60 points, the second one 48 (0.8 * 60) points and the third one 24 (0.4 * 60) points.
    • The points will then be added up to total 100 points maximum.
    • The top three videos with the highest point value will receive an award, certificate, and prizes as well as the best Czech contestant (if he's among the top 3, he'll get two awards). There may be honorary mention prizes and titles available if enough videos are submitted and resources allow.
  • 8. ADVIK USE – The submitter of the AMV grants free use of the AMV to Advik for promotional purposes for the year of the festival it is submitted for. Advik is not responsible for any damages resulting from the AMV competition or promotional use of submitted AMVs. Advik will not distribute the AMVs aside from promotions before the festival, and will give credit to the AMV compiler if the AMV is used for promotional purposes.
